2023/24 Season Review

After a challenging 22/23 season, the Eagles spread their wings and soared to new heights. With only two games of the season played we won our first trophy, the club’s fair play shield for the previous season!

The Eagles have been well drilled in how important it is to uphold the respect principles and not use any fowl language regardless of what happens on the pitch and they fully deserved this early boost.

With the move to seven-a-side and a bigger pitch this didn’t hamper the Eagles getting off to a flyer, bolstered by some new recruits. Spencer, who zips around the pitch like a cheetah with a jetpack scored one of the goals of the season with his swift feet beating three players before netting. Grace, who has more girl power than a spice girls’ reunion and when egged on by the crowd would show us her enormous potential when running with the ball. Matty has a featherlight touch of the ball and whose cool, calm and collected finishing would make James Bond look like Mr Bean. Finally, Henry who orchestrates matches, with his right foot the baton and the Eagles the philharmonic.

Every one of the Eagles gave their parents something to be proud of over the season. Joshua scored three stupendous strikes from close to the half way line like Thor swinging his hammer, one in a decisive tournament match to earn his teammates a medal. Robin is built like a racing snake but its between the sticks he shone, throwing himself around like a ninja deflecting throwing stars. Barley is like a boy mountain in an orange football kit, he showed us why he was a fan favourite last year with his eager attitude and knack of popping up with vital goals.

Whilst others seek the glory that goals provide, Coben stands like a knight in shining armour, impenetrable and gallant. In a thrilling cup tie that went to penalties, it was Jason who had the responsibility in taking the decisive kick. His courage shone through like a lighthouse on the darkest of nights as he unleashed a rocket into the roof of the net to send the Eagles wild. The Eagles most improved player is Tyreece, his progress has been like a rocket blasting off into space, chipping in with goals and turning into a very dangerous attacking threat. Missing the middle of the season through injury, Declan came back like the roaring applause for a Glastonbury headliner encore, bagging his first goal for the club on his return.

Our fortunes flew south for the winter as the weather turned, but the Eagles rose like a phoenix from the flames to go unbeaten in their last four games. With the league season finished the Eagles were treated to a slap-up celebration meal at Downing Street Greek restaurant in Farnham, before moving into tournament season. The Eagles had more to crow about, a runners-up medal at fleet town was surpassed when we went to fleet spurs and won the plate competition for our group in dramatic fashion. 2-0 down in the fourth game and looking down and out, the Eagles are no chickens and fought back to win 3-2, with Henry smashing in a free kick with the literal last moment of the game to send the fans cuckoo. A fitting end to a glorious season.

Finally, a big thank you to our sponsor Driven whose backing has made all of the above possible from the managers.
